    Responsibilities

    Functional Responsibilities:

                                                                                   

          ISYS Technologies is seeking a Linux Administrator.

     

     

    Job Duties:

     

    • Install and configure operating systems from Red Hat (RH) Satellite server
    • Monitor and manage system security, including installation of software patches from RH satellite server
    • Install and maintain third-party software such as relational databases (PostgreSQL), statistical libraries (MATLAB), and Geographic Information System – GIS (ArcGIS Server)
    • Conduct system backups and recovery with knowledge using Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)
    • Respond to user helpdesk tickets, personable, ability to work with a variety of people, work well under pressure, and ability to balance competing projects/requests.
    • Work in an environment administrated within a broader NCEP/NWS system which adheres to government regulation and rules
    • Maintain data file structure(s) and monitor system configuration to ensure data integrity

     

    Qualifications

    Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor degree Computer Science or related discipline
    • 5+ years’ experience in system administration
    • Solid background in computer science and the principles of system administration
    • Experience with the following: VMware and configuring virtual machines (VM) and Network Applicance (NetApp) or similar large-scale storage device
    • Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field

     

     

     

     

    Desired Experience:

    • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise
    • Experience with any of the following system software: GIS, PostgreSQL, MATLAB, and IDL
    • Experience with any of the following software development tools: Python, PHP, FORTRAN compiler
    • Skills in writing and using shell scripts (sh, csh, ksh, bash, perl)

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, walk, stand and climb stairs and steps. May require walking long distance from parking to work station. Occasionally, movement that requires twisting at the neck and/or trunk more than the average person, squatting/ stooping/kneeling, reaching above the head, and forward motion will be required. The employee will continuously be required to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motion many times. Manual and finger dexterity are essential to this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, depth perception and telling differences among colors. The employee must be able to communicate through speech with clients and public. Hearing requirements include conversation in both quiet and noisy environments. Lifting may require floor to waist, waist to shoulder, or shoulder to overhead movement of up to 20 pounds. This position demands tolerance for various levels of mental stress.
